Cairn

Ask Slack and Notion, and read the source age

Slack threads and Notion docs drift apart. Cairn can index both, cite the sentence, and show how old the source is.

Cairn indexes files and the tools you connect. Slack and Notion are the ones named. A decision often lives in a thread and, later, in a page that was not updated. Source age is how you see that gap on the answer.

Connecting a tool means that tool is involved in providing what you connect. The assistant that answers is on-device. Those are different sentences, and both are true.

Steps

  1. Connect only the workspaces you want cited

A citation can only point at what was indexed. If a Slack workspace should not be in the corpus, do not connect it. The same goes for a Notion space.

  2. Ask a question that might have two homes

Policy, a date, a name, a process. These are the questions where a thread and a doc diverge.

  3. Read the citation and the age together

A sentence cited to a Slack message from last year is not the same as a sentence cited to a Notion page edited this week. Source age is on the answer so you do not have to guess.

  4. Stop on a conflict flag

If the sources disagree, Cairn flags them. Pick the one you will follow, and fix the other if you are the person who can. Do not approve an action that deletes a source you have not read.

Before you start

  • Slack and Notion remain Slack and Notion. Cairn does not replace their accounts or their retention rules.
  • Private channels and private pages are still sensitive after they are indexed on your Mac. The index is only as private as the Mac and the accounts you connected.

Questions

Does the answer leave my Mac?

Cairn is a private on-device assistant. It answers on the machine. The connection to Slack or Notion is how those sources are reached. We do not describe a separate Seven Hills cloud that stores your workspace.

What if Slack and Notion disagree?

Cairn flags conflicting sources. You choose which one stands. Age and confidence are there so the choice is not only a matter of which paragraph was smoother.
