Cairn
Find duplicate documents
Open the knowledge health report, read the duplicates it lists, and decide yourself. Deletion is an approval-gated action, not a side effect of the report.
Duplicate notes make citations ambiguous: the assistant can point at a copy you forgot. Cairn's knowledge health report includes duplicates and outdated docs.
The report does not describe an automatic delete. Approval-gated actions are how anything further happens.
Steps
Open the knowledge health report
Read the duplicates as pairs or groups of files, not as a score. We do not publish a matching algorithm. If two items are listed, open both.
Decide which copy is current
Look at dates, titles, and whether one of them is the note you would want cited next time. Outdated docs are the other half of the same report.
Do not approve a delete you have not opened
If you ask Cairn to act, the action waits for approval. Approval is the moment of responsibility. The report itself is the reading.
Ask a question that should hit the survivor
After you archive or remove a duplicate, ask something that note answers and check the citation. That is the loop in Search your notes with citations.
Before you start
- Two files can share a topic without being duplicates. Open them before you treat the report as an instruction.
- Connected Slack or Notion material can show up in the index. Those copies may be canonical for someone else. Read before you approve an action.
Questions
How does Cairn decide two documents are duplicates?
The product says the report includes duplicates. It does not publish the matcher on this site. Treat the list as something to open, not as a verdict you skip.
Will duplicates be deleted for me?
No. Actions are approval-gated. You approve an action after you have read the files.
