Murmur

Custom dictionary and snippets

Add the words the model keeps missing, and the phrases you do not want to speak in full. Then dictate again and see if the preview of the text is right.

A local speech model does not know your product names until you tell the app. Murmur has a custom dictionary for those words and snippets for longer text you want inserted.

Neither feature is a cloud vocabulary shared across a company, because we do not describe one. They are part of the app on the Mac.

Steps

  1. Collect the words that came out wrong

After a dictation session, note names, ticket prefixes, and acronyms. Those are dictionary entries. Ordinary English that was merely mumbled is not a dictionary problem.

  2. Add the word the way it should be spelled

Enter the spelling you want typed. Dictate a sentence that contains the word and see whether the focused app receives that spelling.

  3. Turn repeated phrases into snippets

A mailing address, a sign-off, a standard review line, or a code phrase you refuse to speak letter by letter. The snippet inserts the longer text. You choose the trigger the app asks you for.

  4. Keep an eye on history

History lets you see what was typed. If a snippet expanded in the wrong place, the cursor was in the wrong place. Focus still decides the destination.

Before you start

  • A snippet is only as careful as the text you stored in it. Read it once before you bind it to something you say often.
  • We do not describe import, export, or team sync for the dictionary. Do not plan a rollout on a feature this site does not list.

Questions

Will the dictionary fix every error?

It fixes the words you add. It does not retrain a public model, and it does not guarantee the next sentence. Listen to the result.

Are snippets voice-only?

Murmur's snippets are part of dictation: a short expansion for a phrase you do not want to speak in full. The exact trigger is the one you set in the app.
