Liquid Glass
Apple's translucent, native design material introduced with the macOS 26 generation.
Liquid Glass is Apple's design language for the system generation that includes macOS 26: translucent materials, controls that sit on a glass-like surface, and a look apps can adopt instead of drawing their own chrome. It is a visual system. It is not a privacy policy and not a file-system feature.
Disk Housekeeper, Murmur, and Cairn use that native material. The menu bar readout, a dictation hotkey, and a summoned answer panel are meant to look like the Mac they appear on. What the apps do — preview, Trash, a local speech model, a citation — is independent of the material. More on that split is in Liquid Glass on a Mac utility.
